Dali x Murakami
Collaboration
Collaboration

This is a hypothetical collaboration between the surrealist painter, Salvador Dali, and the Japanese contemporary artist, Takashi Murakami. Dali created the logo for Chupa Chups in 1969.
Interestingly enough, food has been used in the context of the scarcity of food during conflict, as depicted in Soft Construction with Boiled Beans (Premonition of Civil War) and Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening. Perhaps Dali’s earlier work in the Dada movement helped him to create more notable surrealist pieces - peculiarly enough involving food.
What instantly drew me to Murakami was the vivacious nature of the characters he drew. They exude life not just in the form of a cartoon or kawaii, but also in the form of life-affirming motifs. Name me something more Dada than an infant sucking on a lollipop. This was a sweet for children.
Chupa Chups are no strangers to collaborations themselves. Between 2000 and 2003, they were the main kit sponsor of the football club, Sheffield Wednesday. There are more than 100 flavours available worldwide, so I am confident that the assortment of colour and confectionery goes very well. 14 shades of colour in a logo? The more, the merrier, as Muramaki would attest.
